Membership in WWU Poet & Lyricist Society

Through my participation in WWU’s Poets and Lyricists Society (PALS), I gained hands-on experience fostering respectful, inclusive environments through creative expression. This student-led group emphasized ethical dialogue, thoughtful critique, and emotional intelligence—all key traits in professional environments. Regular writing workshops and performances helped me build discipline while deepening my ability to listen, give constructive feedback, and hold space for diverse voices. These moments taught me that ethical professionalism is grounded not just in output, but in interpersonal respect and integrity. As I move into a marketing role within the fashion industry, I will carry these lessons forward by championing authentic narratives and inclusive storytelling. This activity solidified my belief that professional excellence stems from empathy and values-driven collaboration.

MGMT 382: Business and its Environment

MGMT 382 challenged me to examine how businesses influence and are influenced by social, political, and environmental systems. We analyzed how corporate decisions impact marginalized communities and broader equity outcomes, prompting deep reflection on the ethical dimensions of leadership. This course emphasized that equity and inclusion are not only moral imperatives but strategic advantages that contribute to long-term business success. I also confronted my own biases and positionality, expanding my understanding of inclusive practices in the workplace. As I pursue a career in fashion marketing—an industry with a history of exclusion—I am committed to integrating EDI principles into branding, hiring, and product development. This class fundamentally shifted how I define responsible business leadership and inspired me to lead with purpose.

MKTG 495: Branding Marketing

MKTG 475 deepened my understanding of strategic communication as a cornerstone of successful branding. Through collaborative projects, brand audits, and presentations, I strengthened my skills in articulating cohesive brand narratives, synthesizing feedback, and aligning messaging with visual identity. This course underscored the importance of consistency in tone and storytelling to build trust and clarity with target audiences. I also gained confidence in professional writing and public speaking, especially in high-stakes or collaborative settings. As someone entering the sustainable fashion space, where authenticity and transparency are key, these skills are critical. I now feel equipped to communicate with clarity and purpose, ensuring that my messaging not only resonates but inspires action.

Sales Associate at Victoria's Secret (2022-2024)

My time at Victoria’s Secret provided immersive training in customer engagement, fast-paced retail operations, and team collaboration. Over six quarters, I managed floor sets, achieved sales benchmarks, and was frequently trusted with responsibilities beyond my role due to my initiative and reliability. This experience sharpened my emotional intelligence, time management, and leadership abilities—skills I now carry confidently into both academic and professional settings. Interacting with a wide range of customers helped me better understand real-time consumer behavior and the nuances of frontline brand representation. This hands-on experience in the fashion retail industry grounded my future career aspirations in real-world insights. I now approach marketing strategy with both a customer and employee lens, preparing me for future leadership in fashion marketing.

All activities have been completed by myself during my time at Western Washington University. I have read the Academic Honesty Policy and can confirm that my description of these activities is from my own lived experience of them.
